Windermere, Cumbria -travel information and accommodation
Windermere, the largest of the lakes and by far the most popular, with Ambleside to its north and Windermere town and Bowness half way up the east side, it is most peoples introduction to the Lake District, indeed some people stray no further.
During the season, Windermere can be over crowded and far too touristy for many peoples liking. However as the gate-way to the rest of the region, and particularly out of peak period, it can still be a fantastic place to stay and explore.
